The Manly Daily has featured Danes as Champion Australian Roaster for 2018

If there is one thing Paul Jackson has wrapped his brain around, it is knowing how to create a good cup of coffee.

So much so, the owner and managing director of Danes Specialty Coffee in Brookvale secured 16 awards at the Australian International Coffee Awards (AICA) In Melbourne — a result similar to its performance at the 2017 event.

While Mr Jackson said he was thrilled Danes Specialty Coffee took out the title of Champion Australian Roaster for the first time this year, he viewed the win as a new benchmark to success at the next AICA.

"It's just really exciting to see how far we've come", he said.

"I came into the business in 1994 and in 95 we opened our first speciality coffee house in Neutral Bay. We're always on the lookout to improve, so to win an award where we are up against the top roasters from our region is a huge deal of us".

Mr Jackson said the business, which initially focused on roast and grind coffee for office filters, continuously sourced quality coffee along with new roasting and processing methods from all corners of the globe.

Danes Specialty Coffee was one of more than 180 exhibitors - including specialist from New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Singapore the USA and UK —to take part in this year's AICA.

"Every step of the way we put everything into making our coffee what it is and we are so proud to take home an award as prestigious as this", he said
