A new Connect Group has been formed at DMC, Danes Coffee Connect Group. Meeting regularly at DMC we aim to create a personal, face-to-face forum for coffee lovers to discuss what we all love to talk about: COFFEE!

Our first Coffee Connect Group will be held on Friday 23rd March 2012 at 6pm where we will also launch our newly renovated DMC showroom and our brand new surprise espresso machine. All are welcome, we would love to see you there!

Danes Ministry of Coffee

Danes Ministry of Coffee (DMC) is a NEW concept at Danes for the coffee lover. Situated at our Danes Roasting facility at Brookvale, DMC is a showroom for all things coffee. DMC will house specialty coffees, home machines and grinders alternative brewers, coffee accessories, a tasting room and a training facility. A drop-in destination open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, DMC is at 28 Dale St Brookvale, and will also be a general knowledge coffee centre.  Appointments can be made to discuss coffee, machines, tastings and training for home coffee lovers or commercial operators, and Danes Barista Accreditation.

Jas My Waffles

Danes wholesale customer Jas My Waffles will be holding their own in-house barista competition this Saturday 3rd December at their Narellan store. Their address is Kiosk 14, 326 Camden Valley Way Narellan NSW.

The current Australian GBC champ Nadine Norman will present the winner with a GBC jacket and act as head judge of the scoring. Stay tuned for photos and news from the competition next week.

MadCap Cafe Wins Casey Business of the Year

Congratulations to MadCap Café Fountain Gate on winning the City of Casey Business of the Year Award and Best Social Enterprise of the Year Award for 2011. MadCap Cafes work with ermha (Eastern Regions Mental Health Assoc) to employ staff who may have disabilities, mental illness and those who need a helping hand to get ahead.  Danes is proud to support MadCap and has been training their teams in the MadCap Victorian Grand Barista Championship, which will be run as the Victorian heat for the Australian GBC.

In its second year the Danes Home Barista Competition (HBC) attracted 68 competitors overall. The Final this year was held at Danes Gourmet Coffee training and showroom at Brookvale with the barista standards increasing from last year. The 2011 HBC winner was Nico Van Der Walt who used the Danes Mocha Gold blend to win in his second attempt after competing last year and placing 3rd.

Modishe Espresso wins Customer Care Award

Danes wholesale coffee customer Modishe Espresso in Wauchope has won a “customer care” award for “Food and Beverage Retailing” from the Greater Port Macquarie Focus newspaper acknowleding their outstanding work in the Port Macquarie region.

Modishe Espesso prides themselves on serving the best coffee in town, the team works hard to deliver consistency and reliability.  Customer services extends to free delivery to Wauchope CBD and hospital, a customer loyalty program and account system for businesses.

Australian GBC 2011

The Australian GBC was held on 1st June 2011 at the Danes Gourmet Coffee Institute in Brookvale (Sydney).

Congratulations to Nadine Norman, winner of the Australian Danes Grand Barista Championship 2011. Since Nadine is a Danes employee, she is not qualified to compete in the final so Sasa Sestic, second place in Sydney, represented Australia to compete in Thailand for the Australasian GBC title.

Hong Kong GBC 2011

The 3rd annual Hong Kong Grand Barista Championship (GBC) was held during HOFEX 2011 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 11th to May 14th.

Congratulations to the winner of the HK Grand Barista Championship Chow Cheung Ming and HK Grand Latte Championship Yiu-Fai Kim Yeung.

GBC@HOFEX is an event co-organized by GBC Organizing Committee, supported by the Hong Kong Barista Association and majorly sponsored by Danes.

Full Steam Ahead – Science and coffee are a winning blend for this barista

Whether it's peoples' emotions or a cup of coffee. Alex Stathis loves to pick things apart. Stathis 22, works part-time as a barista at Morgan's Kitchen in Liverpool while she studies honours in neurophysiology full-time at the Unveristy of Sydney. "Studying at uni full-time, making coffee is my creative outlet – I absolutely love it," Stathis says. The café was established four years ago to introduce specialty coffee to an area largely dominated by chain stores. Stathis's life partner, Habib Maarbani owns the café and has previously been ranked second in the country for his baristaskills by the Australasian Specialty Coffee Association. Following in his footsteps, Stathis recently won the Danes Grand Barista Championship, where she competed against industry heavyweights from across Australasia.
