The Danes Gourmet Coffee trade name was originally inherited from Danish Brew Coffee Pty Ltd. In 1972 it was established by a Danish lady who serviced offices with high grade premium coffee. The company has since been transformed dramatically with the office coffee market now only a fraction of the complete Danes picture. In 2004, the Danes company store and café customers made up 95% of all coffee roasted at Danes. Paul Jackson the Managing Director of Danes Gourmet Coffee has always stayed true to roasting and supplying fresh premium grade gourmet coffee from its roaster in Brookvale NSW.
Over the past twenty years, the wine industry in Australia has used education to grow their market share with spectacular results. Since 1999, Danes Gourmet Coffee has taken the lead in the coffee industry by similarly using education to grow the specialty coffee industry.

 In 1995, the company opened its first coffee house in Neutral Bay which heralded the beginning of its retailing that in turn laid the foundation for all the Danes quality control systems. To keep a finger on the pulse and to monitor changing customer trends, Danes continues to own and operate 2 espresso bar coffee houses in Wahroonga and Dee Why. These two stores act as working models to reinforce the successful formulas that Danes offers to its franchisees and café customers.
Coffee appreciation and training has always played a major role at Danes and courses were originally conducted at Neutral Bay from 1996. Since the Australian coffee industry had no official guidelines or standards at the time, Paul Jackson founded the Danes Gourmet Coffee Institute (DGCI) in 1999. As well as forming the institute, he defined the nearest thing to the first espresso standards and formal barista accreditation.
 The DGCI is recognised in Australia today as the industry's most thorough training curriculum and has been used as a training model for all that have followed. This training and experience, in turn, is used to support the ever growing astute group of Danes supplied cafes to transfer the Danes success to its customers. Although revolutionary in their philosophies, Danes Gourmet Coffee and the Danes Gourmet Coffee Institute are committed to giving to the industry an exceptional quality coffee, training and quality control systems to measure and maintain an extraordinary barista standard.
